At about this time, Robert Cutt lived here with his wife, Elizabeth. Previously, he was a farm manager at Balfour Mains, Shapinsay.

Comments:
I have heard him refered to as Robby Cutt, and when a trawler was wrecked on Torness Point he took straw out to burn and make a signal to the Lifeboat, as she had been sent to Duncansbay Head for this was where the skipper of the trawler thought they were.
Old Robby then took some of the survivors who came ashore back to the Farm House and offered warmth and food.
The Farm House looks much the same to this day. It is a fine house and would be part of the masive building programe done by Thomas Middlemore when he undertook the rebuilding of Melsetter Estate.
