Note kart track where the big guest house now is.

It's a crying shame they built that on top of the kart track. It would be ideal for the mini motos that are so popular now and I believe a lot of local authorities are providing areas like that to keep mini moto racing legal and off the streets.

Year must be pre 1990 as Primrose Bank (built 1989) is not in there.

Does anyone know who owns the kart track - the piece that is left following the building of the Lodge? Local planning department say they have no record of a kart track being on this site, but the camera does not lie.

Yes, the Robertsons (as in oil and Orcadian) owned it in 2006 and refused me permission to use a mini moto there.

I raced go-karts on the track in the 90's, magic fun until Peggy-Viners-vickers or Peggy Shand dumped a pile of brick and metal on it. Then the Grand hotel was built on the long corner.. Such a shame...

As some-one who lived in Houton during the time that the track was used it was a welcome relief when the racing stopped. The noise of the carts echoed round the valley and ruined many beautiful Sundays for us. It was not only confined to Sundays as people often arrived out in the evenings through the week to practice.

I remember watching the racing as a toddler in the 80s. Sadly, by the time I was old enough to get a Kart (~1990) the club and racing had gone, but anyway me, my brother and friends used to chase lap times round the track, and occasionally someone else would show up for some racing, till the big fence went up, cutting it in half - 1997?

This was a great track, and I'm glad to have contributed to "ruined" Sundays for "Anon (22 October 2013)". If I'd only known at the time I would have drilled the silencer to make more noise!

I think most people thought the track was a good thing, because it gave kids (and big kids) something to do.

It was terrible that they built that ugly hotel on it, but the track was starting to get into poor shape and I guess nobody wanted to organise a club anymore to take care of or make use of it.

We ran karts around there in the 90s as well still have the karts as well often thought it would be great to get something going again, if could find somewhere big enough Stromness lorry park just doesn't work.
