Looks like David Reid the boatbuilder who lived at Gravesend, Calfsound, until the late 1960s/early 1970s. The whole family moved to the Buckie area where they were employed in the shipbuilding and fishing industries.

This photo features in Rosemary Hebdens excellent new book 'Eday' and is captioned 'Davy Reid, Gravesend, Calfsound, making dinghy (last boat built on Eday)'

In this photo Davy Reid is repairing an old boat - not building a new one.

This is my father repairing a dinghy in 'Purdie's' as you can see the smiddy fire in the background. The last boat he built in Eday was at Gravesend. The last boat he made was here in Portknockie and launched a few weeks before his 80th birthday. Possible photos of her in the Eday Heritage.
