A Dougie Cooper picture from 1965 showing Matta, fondly remembered.
Not sure where this picture was taken, but my guess is on Victoria Road, Kirkwall, opposite the end of Victoria Lane.

Aye, I kent him since childhood. A great Kirkwallian was Matt. Matta maybe wasnt dealt a good hand, but he stoically got on with it and made a contribution that would shame many.

I don’t know why but I was thinking about Matta this morning. Our family used to live at the top of Earl Sigurd Street - on King Haakon St. I believe Matta funeral took place in St Magnus Cathedral. I wasn’t there having left Kirkwall to join the RAF in 1963.
