K.A.O.S.

Enclosed is an item of interest to followers of the Kirkwall Operatic Society.

Does anyone know which opera this was, and when was it produced.?
The names as I know them are as follows:

Back row, L to R- William Burges, Edwin Lennie, ? MacGillivray, Not Known

Front row, L to R- Not Known, James Linklater, John Sclater, Alfred J. Cromarty, Not Known

Perhaps someone out there can come up with the missing names?
Peter Burges

PS This would probably be a Men's Chorus.

Comments:
Is it possible that this photo was from 1928 when they did a production of 'The Gondoliers'? it looks like it could be from that one?

Have been in touch with Lesley regarding this picture and apologies for not keeping the facts up to date.
This opera was in fact Ruddigore 1931 and I believe that this was the only time that this opera has been performed by K.A.O.S., according to the records I have.

I believe the opera was RUDDIGORE or the Witches Curse, 1931. My Grandfather Mr James Smith was Sir Despard Murgatroyd (a wicked baronet). The men's Chorus also contained a J Flett, J Gow, J Hobkirk, M Hutchison, D Wilson and J MacGillivray.

I believe my mother, Mary Groundwater (nee Spence), had a principal part in this opera but I don't know what it was. She often said it was the only opera that was not performed for a second time.

Miss M Spence played Zorah and Miss P Leslie played Ruth both 'Professional Bridesmaids'. Miss M Scarth, Mrs D D Marwick, Miss J Gourlay, Mr John Ross, Mr A Clark, Mr Jas Smith, Mr Geo L Eunson and Mr Jas Scarth also played main parts. It ran from 27th April to 2 May 1931.
