A Tom Kent picture, date unknown. My own guess at this is that we are seeing the back of Foubister and Bain's, with the Strynd on the other side of the wall to the right.

You're quite right. At the time of the photo I think it was the home of Thomas W Ranken, Sheriff Clerk of Orkney. In 1903 at the age of 54 he married 27-year-old Miss Fanny Greenland of Pimlico(there's maybe hope for ageing bachelors yet). Anyone got a picture of the happy couple?
