Looks suspiciously like the base upon which shore battery guns (WWII) were mounted. Lying outside the Smiddy Museum in the 'Hope is a circular steel plate with holes around the circumference - being a mounting for a gun from, I think, the Hoxa Head Battery. The object in the photograph would appear to be of similar size, although there are few clues as to scale etc. Just a thought!

The footprint of a dismantled wind turbine? The layout of what looks like boltholes around the circumference looks about right
