I can scarcely believe that there are plans afoot to demolish this lovely old house and replace it with the 4 storey monstrosity depicted in the paper the other week. It's one thing building a huge block of flats in a built up area at the Kiln Corner - another thing altogether to ruin such an important part of Kirkwall's heritage.

Having grown up in this house I cannot believe they are planning to knock down a good solid house with nothing wrong with it. I fully agree the plans for the replacement are horrendous and will totally spoil the area. Looking back at any old photo of Kirkwall, Ayre House is always there, part of our heritage being demolished it personally make me very sad.
