I am interested in seeing the photos. My mom is Sylvia Taylor and lived in that area when she was a child. I believe it was up the hill past the cemetary - is that where this house is near?

This was Dr Harriot, Lizzie and Gena Taylors house down at the Longhope pier.
Your mothers home was down in the East End of the Island if it is Sylvia Taylor a sister of Jim Taylor. He is in one of my photo's at the Hoy Hall in the 1950's sitting with my dad.

The house where Sam Taylor and family lived and generations of Taylors lived before them was called the Old Hall.(We called it the Ould Haa.
Bremner Taylor, one of the heroes of the "Donnington" rescue was from that family. There is a good picture of the house as it is today, if you go to www.longhope.co.uk, places to stay and then Old Hall Cottage. On the lifeboat section of the same site is a photo of Bremner Taylor and his fellow boatmen, along with the famous yole. I knew Jim, Sam, Doddie and Syd well, but Sylvia was a lot younger.
