m.v. 'Edenside' discharging coal by tub to horse-drawn carts at Westray Pier in 1960. I can remember, as a schoolboy during the school holidays, being paid £5 for two and a half days work, shovelling coal up 'the face' in the coal store after it had been tipped from the horse-drawn carts. This photograph was taken by the Late Billy Thomson, formerly of Hewison's shop, Westray.

Hi my grandfather, Thomas Buchan, was captain on board the Edenside up until his death in 1960. He stayed in Peterhead all his life. He was also owner and skipper of the steam drifter Cavalier pd. 601.
