Here we have The Movies rehearsing in the Ayre Mills in 1981, at a time when there was talk of opening it as a venue.
From L-R Ian Tait, Andy Walker and Simon Chirgwin
Anyone forthcoming with a band history of the new wave maestros?

As a young, impressionable Boys Brigade member I remember the Movies practising in the BB hall in George Street circa 1979-81.
They obviously made such a big impact on me that I forgot they had even existed!!
I do seem to remember Alan Croy playing the drums though.

Alan Croy was the original drummer with Dave Leslie on bass and Alan Rendall on lead guitar. Andy Tait played keyboards with the pictured lineup for a while too and Les Burgher was manager. We had a few excellent nights in the early to mid 80's (esp at the old Albert and in Hoy). When you see what's been done at Fusion, developing the Ayre Mills doesn't seem so far fetched now!

In my pre-Movie days, my band Kaleidoscope aka Simple Solution used to jam at The Ayre Mills also, which was operated by a gentleman who went by the dubious monicker "Smelly".
The Movies actually continued to gig occasionally in Hoy and Glasgow through to 1986, the line-up at that time being Chirgy, Yanto, The Flying Vandies (Andy Tait and Andy Walker) and guitar-hero Sean Groundwater.

When the Ayre Mills was being done up as flats I was in there to put phones in and on the pillars that you can see was grafitti left by the soldiers who were billeted there in the war.
