Willie writes:
'Tommy Rendall's boat, the Amaranth. This is the boat that used to ferry the kids from Papay to Westray before the Golden Mariana and is still used for charters and when the Mariana is off for refit. I have gone from Westray to Papay on many a dark and stormy winter morning in this boat. What like it was for the kids coming the other way heaven knows.'

Did this boat fish from Stromness at one time ?

I could be wrong but I believe this is a boat that my uncle George, Tommy Rendall's father, had build for lobster fishing. I think she was build by Duncans in Burray. Unfortunately the small lobster fisherman was pushed out of business by large boats using many more creels on backropes. Uncle George retired and passed the boat on to Tommy.

Thats the one Ernie. No Stewart, I don't think she ever fished out of Stromness. I could be wrong on this but I am nearly sure she has spent all her life in Westray.
