Mystery Place in Orkney

A postcard from my collection. I have never worked out where this is exactly - anybody know? [And can anyone send in a corresponding picture from today?]

Rennibister?

Good puzzle Terry, I was going to say Houton, west side of the bay looking up to Midland Hill, but I think not. Rousay - Sourin area? Looks sheltered with those drystone walls right on the shore, so not on the open coast. How about Tingwall?

I think it might be Rousay as well.

I puzzled over this when it was first posted nine years ago, and I puzzled over it again last week when I found it again. I thought it must be somewhere other than Orkney. But that hill looked familiar. Then it struck me. No wonder it looked familiar - I see it every day! It is the Ward of Bressay in Shetland. The picture shows the old Bressay Manse from near Mail Pier and is also on the Shetland Museum Photo Archive site. It was taken by C. Stout. My only excuse is that in the 18 years I have lived in Lerwick, I have only been across in Bressay once, and that was in the dark.
