This is Bill Mowat from Brims. He was a great seaman, a legend in his time. Many stories were told about him around the firesides in Brims, when I was young, before TV etc. came along to spoil conversation and folklore. Bill died in 1934.

Good that you put in this photo Fred, as I was about to do this one next.
'Willdack' was indeed one of the greatest heroes talked about in our time, especially when he climbed a rope ladder to board the 'Manchester City' and pilot that ship clear of the Pentland Firth in storm conditions. It was said he boarded the ship like a cat (such was his agility) early on Wednesday morning and did not get back to Brims until Saturday night. In that time he was wet through and had not had a sleep, and his new leather seaboots had to be cut from his feet as they were so swollen.

brave man indeed, Iv just started drawing up the Stout family tree, there were some brave men in the family's Bills uncle Benjamin was another. such heroism
