Date is a guess. A lifeboat leaving Kirkwall Pier.

Aye Steven. I wondered who would have a go. Spoot must have missed it.

Most likely the Barnett class "John Gellatly Hyndman" which had probably been in to "the Toon" with a "hospital case" from one of the North Isles which was the norm if anybody needed medical attention more urgently than the "Orcadia" or steam Earls could deliver until the advent of Loganair in 1967. Sadly the over-educated, totally impractical fools that ran the Scottish Ambulance Service made it impossible for Loganair to continue what was a well-proven fast local service a few years ago. Many North Isles folk must be glad to know that there is a SAR helicopter based at Sumburgh otherwise we'd be again depending on the Lifeboat!!
