The date is a guess. The description ia as vague as my memory. Maybe 2nd year. The back of the photo (J.W. Sinclair) is autographed.

Fegs, looks like the Kirkwall lasses thrived much better than the boys on rationing . The lads at the back were dwarfed by the amazons in their midst. My birthyear, I'd love t'see twathree names

You're not far wrong with the date - I make it 1952. I was in Ist year then too, but there were 4 classes, 1A1, 1A2, 1A3, 1A4. I recognise most of the people in this photo as they ended up in the class with me, probably the following year in 2nd year, when we were divided a bit according to subjects taken. Doreen Dalziel was only at KGS for one year, 1951-52, and then the family went to Australia. Class photos were taken in the summer term, so this would have been '52.
