Willie Groat outside Cathedral

Kenny writes:
'The attached photo is of Willie Groat standing in front of St Magnus Cathedral. Willie used to be the Cathedral Bellringer and although he lives in Longhope he is a regular visitor to Kirkwall and to his beloved Cathedral. Willie is Branch Patron of the Red Cross and this photo was taken by myself on Red Cross Day - 8th May 2004.'

Comments:
Willie Groat is a fine man and a true gentleman. We visited Hoy in October and were invited into his house. We were fixated by tales of the sea, and shown models of his boat. We were served high tea and given signed copies of his book "the sea under my counter" This was an example of true Orcadian hospitality and the memory of this wonderful afternoon will remain with me always.
