This old piece of fire fighting apparatus lay at Hatston for years. It eventually fell to bits.

Like the picture. Alderton farm should be to the left of the cottage where we lived from 1966 to 1970.

I seem to have a recollection that in the 1950s this may have lain in the old seaweed factory at Hatston that was operated from the hanger nearest Kirkwall. There were also some old balloon tyres off what I presume were wartime planes.
The kids used to have great fun playing on the, what to me as a youngster, were huge bags of dried seaweed that were stacked up to the rafters prior to shipping south for processing. God bless health and safety!
