2 Men In A Boat

Having seen mention in a comment for picture #3948 of John B. Russell's studio, I thought I'd include this photo...

I've no idea who the two guys are, or if that's anything like the right date, I'm afraid.

Comments:
Dear Alison, I am so happy to have seen your picture of these 2 men in a boat. I have an old portrait card from the very same photographer, portraying (I think!) my gr. gr. grandparents, Margaret Walls and James Harrold Taylor. I was not able to upload it so I have emailed it to "contact" at this site. My Great Grandfather, James Cromarty Taylor migrated to the US mid-1890s, returning to Orkney some years later. He died at Widewall Farm in 1957. I have never been and would love to visit, although it might have to be by rowboat... This is a great site! Thanks for posting. Sallie

Hello, Sallie... I would love to know who these two guys were. I don't THINK they're relatives, but don't know why else Dad would have had the photo in his collection. Look forward to seeing your one.

There are several examples of this picture around. They are all identical apart from the people on the boat. If you look in the book, Burghers o Westray, you will see the same photo, same boat, same pier, same lighthouse same background but two Papa Westray men sitting in the boat

My great grandparent was also James Cromarty. My grandfather was Thomas Hudson Taylor of Harwichport, Massachusetts. I visited Kirkhouse, Widewall in 1982. Leslie Peerie, the owner of the farm gave us a tour of the house, mill, and farm. He showed us a document with JCTs name on it. I hope to return and stay longer.

I have looked carefully at the two men and don't think they are relatives of my great uncle John Bennet Russell.

This studio photograph was taken by my great uncle. After consultation with the family, we do not know the men in the boat.
