We always called it Foosty Foubs! I remember watching them once weighing out sweeties in the scales right after they had weighed out some tobacco. i dont remember them using different scales! Ah the good old days!!

The snuff from there was potent stuff, as I found out to my cost the day I (at about 4 year old) asked my Dad if I could have a sniff and see what it smelt like... I inhaled deeply - and then streamed at the eyes, coughed and sneezed for ages afterwards! Never asked again...

I cant belive that the Foubister shop used to be called Foosty Foubs!Typical!

Am I right in thinking that the Foubister owners initials are still on the doorstep to this day ?

I was born close to DS Foubister It was Davy Damps in the 1940s early 50s

I knew it as Davy Damps but I have heard others calling it Geordie Damps. I used to go there early on my way to work and George would "let me" lift the gate off and put it up the close.

That explains it, I only start coming to the toon and then staying in the 60's. It wis always Geordie Damps that I wis telt to go tae for walnut twist for me Grandfather,...lol
