The inside of Wilbert Thomson's shop at 'The Brig'. - now the Frozen Food Centre. - circa 1960. Note how much of the packaging for items such as Corn Flakes, Scott's Oats,Ryvita, etc etc is virtually unchanged almost 50 years later.

This was before the days of refrigerated display cabinets. Bacon and cold meats for slicing, and eggs, were kept in a glass display cabinet during shop hours and were stored in a large fridge in the back-shop overnight. Cheese came in large blocks which had to be cut-up and weighed/priced. Some biscuits were loose in large tins and had to be weighed/priced. Every day, after school, and on Saturdays, I delivered groceries to customers all over town on a message bike.
