Unusual postcard. This just shows how Kirkwall/Scapa has grown in the last 40 years.

I would say that this picture is much earlier than 1964 given the lack of houses on what were to become Pipersquoy, Kirklands Road and Quoybanks Crescent beyond Laverock Road - early to mid fifties I would guess. Laverock/Manse/Broadsands Roads were completed about 1950 - we moved to Manse Road in 1950 (I am reliably informed - I was only 1 at the time!)and Pipersquoy, Kirklands etc were all there some time before we left in 1963

I think we moved into Kirklands Road about 1958.
