One thing other folk won't make is 'George Castle' out of Reggo Scalter! Sorry about that. What I meant was Gregor Castle.
Incidentally 'Merryba' cropped up recently as the residence of the mystery photographer. Maybe an alternative spelling of Mariba - but it's not in Marwick's book either.

Reggo Scalter will be Reggo (Reginald) Slater from the farm of Trinnigarth; it will be Herbert Garson from Hestwall.

Herbert Garston should be Herbert Garson. He was my uncle married to my mother's sister Rita Ritch. They lived at Hestwall and Herbert died there in 1970. Teacher Liza Jane Leask-Ritch was my great aunt married to my grandfather's brother John Ritch of Myrtledean. Liza lived a long life and died in 1984 aged 92. She was well known in the Sandwick and Dounby communities.

Scalter, Trinngarth & Garston are probably misprints. To a crossword addict the splendid name Reggo Scalter looks almost like an anagram (George Castle?). Boosebreck and Mariba aren't in Marwick's Orkney Farm-names but, of course, may not be farms.
I'll be keen to see what other folk (including the original contributor?) make of this.
