Tea-room and guest-house, Earl's Palace, Birsay

Tea-room and guest-house, Earl's Palace, Birsay. Ca 1913?
In my youth this delightful place, in one of the most charming corners of Orkney, was operated by two warm-hearted, jolly spinsters - the Couper sisters. While still in primary school I spent a short holiday there with my mother and brother and had my first experience of hauling lobster creels with Willie Harvey in his rowing dinghy. I went down with feverish 'gastric flu' immediately afterwards and somehow this caused me to 'tak a scunner' at lobsters which I didn't get over until the darn things became almost too expensive to eat. Then of course I found I loved them.

My guess at the date of this pic was far out. It's from the 1930s.
