The Kirkwall Hotel 1913/14

Doesn't it look good standing out on its own.
It does look like there was once a 2 storey building attatched to it. Couldn't have been worse that whats there now.

Looks like theres no railings around the Basin either. Just imagine having to use common sense when it comes to safety!

Comments:
The Barriers had no safety rails either but I can't recall anyone driving over the edge. It was just taken for granted that you watched where you were going.

What year was the hotel built
Added by Tattieboggle on 25 June 2017
The hotel was built on this site in 1890. Prior to that date it had been in Bridge St dating back to the 1840's though the name "Kirkwall Hotel" only came into being in 1860. The former site is now the vacant area of Bridge St where R. Garden's, then Scarthcentre and recently Wisebuys were. The front part of R. Garden was burnt down in 1938 and the war prevented any chance of re-building so for almost 80 years it has been a vacant eyesore on the street
