Comments:
Back row, 2nd from right is "Sandy" Leask. He became Headmaster in his later years. He was in that post when I went up to the secondary school. He was related to me through his mother's side. Harry Mackerron (spelling?) succeeded him.

Another couple of stories spring to mind.
Sandy supposedly was making a speech in the school hall in front of the pupils. Suddenly his upper set of false teeth shot out of his mouth. I a second or two he had caught them in mid air and clapped them back into his mouth. I wonder how he managed to carry on after that.

The second story involved my mother--then a little girl--and the teacher,Miss Jeannie Gibson (middle row, far right). The said teacher was parading up and down between the rows of her pupils.Next my mother knew she had been walloped on the side of her head by a heavy book. Miss Gibson had assumed that the bulge on Mum's face was a sweet. She was so wrong. It was a gum boil.
Imagine the outrage if that occurred nowadays. Times have changed for the better.

Alexander Leask was born 1 April 1888 and died suddenly on 10 September 1953. He was my first cousin twice removed, although I have no memory of him. He would have been 23 in 1911. Looks about that in the picture.
