An inexpensive way to mark a silver jubilee

A rummage in old boxes turned up this Australian florin of 1926, rather crudely stamped '25' and drilled to take a cord. It obviously marks the 25th anniversary of the federation of the formerly separate Australian states and the opening of their national parliament, but I have no idea how it wound up in my house. My forebears had no close Australian connections - though it's probably hard to find an Orkney family with none at all - so the all-important 'provenance' is lacking. The red cord loop is too small to pass over the head of anyone but a baby, so it doesn't seem to have been intended as a pendant. Any ideas?
