Sanday - 1988-1997
Clockwise from top left: Scar farm & cemetery Jun 1997; William Sichel & Angora rabbit Jul 1996 (doesn't look much older today - and the same can be said for Mr Sichel); Kettletoft Aug 1988.

Scar is not a farm, it's Scar mansion House.

"In my Father's house are many mansions", someone said. He didn't say if his Dad had any farms, but maybe - as can happen - it was hard to tell the difference.

Just realised - Anonymous's comment explains why Scar, and places such as Howan on Egilsay, aren't mentioned in Hugh Marwick's wonderful 'Orkney Farm-names'. He knew the difference.

When I last saw this place nobody was in. It is all alone on the edge of Sanday with only the saville stone for company. Lopness Bay is where i played with 7 brothers and sisters. We lived in Lady. Scar is one place i would love to explore on my next visit
