I'm told by someone who kens more then me (most folk do) it's John Lewis' yard in Torry not Hall Russell's, late 60s!

The Orcadia was built well, like all things in those days!

I think that MV Orcadia was not owned by Orkney Islands Shipping Coy., but by the Secretary of State for Scotland. Can anyone confirm this - or otherwise?

[I think that was the case originally, but it may have changed later. At the time it left was it still registered in Leith, or in Kirkwall? - Steven]

Her registry was indeed changed to Kirkwall not long before she left Orkney when responsibility for the internal ferries was handed over to OIC.
Not meaning to doubt Billy's memory but this photo is actually taken on one of the pontoon docks formerly at Albert Quay Aberdeen operated then by a firm called Wood & Davidson though I think the pontoon actually belonged to the Aberdeen Harbour Board.

She was launched 3rd April 1962 by Hall, Russell and Co. Ltd. This photo, looks like she's on the pontoon in Aberdeen, possibly for repairs. LEITH on her stern, would say to me she was owned by the Secretary of Scotland at the date of the photograph.
