Bought by Lothian Trawlers Ltd from Kingston Steam Trawling Co Ltd Hull in 1948 . Skipper was Patterson at the time . Don`t think it's French , maybe Greek .

John, EUCLASE is a Beryllium aluminium hydroxide silicate mineral, noted for it's blue colour. The name comes from two Greek words,- which I can't give you in Greek- which mean 'easily' and 'fractured'. The ship ultimately lived up to it's name!

To answer your question John, yes there were quite a few trawlers that size sailing out of Granton at that time. I don't remember this particular boat but it was about the time that I worked there during my apprenticeship as a marine engineer.
The C on the funnel, if my mind is still working, is for a company called Croan.(could be Crone)

Obviously the mind isn't working very well. The C on the funnel is for the company Carnie & Gibb.
I actually worked for Joe Croan but as it's the best part of 60 odd years ago maybe I can be excused?

At the time of the wreck the Euclase was owned by the Lothian Trawling Company Ltd of 24 Bernard St Leith. The vessel cost the Company £27,769. Company Directors were my father Erik Smith, my grandfather, Malcolm Smith and his brothers Tom and William Smith
