Kirkwall Thorfinn FC 1910

Kirkwall Thorfinn FC 1910 or so with cup
The other PC of Thorfinn FC from about the time as the other one of mine which is dated 1909/10. The date might have been written on the placard below the cup. There are several men in both pictures. Any names?

Comments:
The man second left in the back row is my maternal grandfather, David Thomson. He was dead before I was born but I have very little information on him. I know he was a cobbler. I think this photo has been published before on he site, described as a Kirkwall Select, but the shirt crest seems to be TFC - Thorfinn as Mr Eunson states.

Does anyone know what cup it is?

This photo is included in Jocky Wood's book Birth, Blood and Boundaries on page 9. The caption reads: Kirkwall FC after they retained the Milne Cup in 1909, beating Lerwick 3-2. Back row, left to right, (players only) D Thomson, J Heddle, D Gordon. Middle, H R Morrison, A J Grant, J M Work. Front, P Thomson, J Croy, R Forbes, W Sinclair, K McKay.

It's the Milne Cup, now played for between Orkney and Shetland but originally played for between Kirkwall and Lerwick (I think).
See picture #23380 for more detail.

Many thanks to Bruce Moar for the link to the other photo, the picture is exactly the same, the placard in front of the ball is cut off by the photographer the same way.

Thanks for the connection Bruce. Now I know me grandfather was a cobbler with Goodlad & Coutts - sounds like a Shetland firm. Does anybody know where they were located in Kirkwall?

I'm sure Paul Sutherland will have the answer to that one.
Over to you Paul!!

Goodlad & Coutts had their shop in Bridge Street close to where the Co-op was in my young day across rhe road from where the Dunfermline BS is now. Their adverts appear in the Orcadian of the time with the street number which I'll need to re-check
