Comments:
I read a comment posted on August 19 another site by someone with a comment by Paul Rusling that:
"The Communciator was in service for Gardline for several years, contracted to the Hydrographers department of the Royal Navy, doing survey work off the outer Hebrides. She was always maintained NOT a deathtrap. The ship was bought and operated by DEKA OVERSEAS INC. (and) sailed to Port Everglades after a thorough survey (that) pronounced her 100% A1 at Lloyds. ... She passed her new ABS classification tickets first time with flying colours. ABS is American bureau of Shiopping, as she was having US insurance (the policy was for $2m replacement if lost). At the last minute it was decided that she would then be certified by Germanischer Lloyd, as they had experience of radio transmitting vessels!"
However, it is my understanding that this ship was not a US built vessel and that only US built ships can receive ABS classification. If that is the case then ABS classification was never a possibility. When it comes to the history of the pirate radio ships most of what is accepted or promoted as fact is really manufactured nonsense. Can anyone add further information to this apparant contradiction? Could this ship have received ABS registry?
