Painting of the loss of the Leicester City

This was a painting of the Leicester City and Stromness lifeboat my father bought from the late Harry Berry. On the back of the painting is a note "March 22nd 1953 Stromness Lifeboat J.J.K.S.W stands-by at the loss of the Leicester City on Hoy"

I think Harry has it wrong, that is not the JJKSW (Stromness Lifeboat) It looks to me to be a Longhope Lifeboat rescue. The Leicester City ran aground in dense fog, not in heavy seas.

Says LEICESTER CITY. on her stern . but Harry was renowned for heavy seas in his paintings. but on another note, was she not a steam trawler... this one in the painting looks a modern motor trawler so most likely just a painting out of his head, not expecting it to be criticised, never the less an excellent scene of a rescue

My mum thinks this could be the rescue of the Ross Puma by the T.G.B. in 1968

Jimmy you're correct, was not looking for criticism, just sharing a true gents work of art.

I am sorry if you thought I was criticising the works of such a talented man. But the wrong info can cause confusion to this popular site's many followers.
