The Varagen berthed at Burwick 1989 prior to going into her short service on the Pentland Firth route. In the background is a drilling barge belonging to Rockfall - a drilling and blasting company who assisted with the dredging works at Burwick. The water was only deep enough to berth a dinghy prior to the dredging.
Rockfall then went round to Kirkwall to drill and blast around the area where the linkspan for the North Isles Ferries is installed. There were a few characters on board this barge, can anyone remember any of them?

How long did it do the run before it was stopped?

About a week. It ran to Houton as Burwick was not ready, and somewhere along the line I think she clipped her propellor on rocks, and had to come out of service.
