Coastal erosion

Coast path, Nethertoun, Stromness, 1 Sep 09.
On that date, I very nearly came to grief here in my little 4x4 (parked in the distance). The superimposed white line shows where the seaward edge of the track was when I last drove along here. Since then, unknown to me, erosion had reduced the width to a few inches less than my car really needed. But with a bump and a sickening lurch my trusty Toyota RAV got me through. So perhaps I'll live to embark on my 79th year of life after all.
There's a sign at the Nethertoun end advising against taking a vehicle along this track, but none at the cemetery end. So please be warned!

Ian, I noticed you had an old wartime photo of the Airfield, so I was wondering if you would have any old photos of the Garrison Theatre, Stromness. I work at the Stromness Pool which is built on the site, and as it's the 40th anniversary of the pool this year we're looking for photos and memorabilia. If you can help, or know anyone who can, please can you contact me. Thanks

Hello Vivienne. I spent many a happy hour in the Garrison Theatre. We even went on afternoon school trips there - to see The Wizard of Oz and, I think, Dumbo and maybe other films. Better than Latin! But, no photos, sorry.
