Jame Sinclair Chalmers Johnstone

James Sinclair Chalmers Johnstone.(the e on the end is variable) Deerness fiddle player. Photograph may have been taken at the upper house Mirland. Can anyone put a date on it? He was featured on four 78 speed records including 'a night at the bu'

I have the records and his Music Cup dated 1933. He is/was my Grandad.

Comments:
If you have any of his music in mp3 format, we can now add it and link it to this picture, in what would be groundbreaking move for the Orkneycommunities Image Library. A clip of < 4MB in size is the sort of thing we are talking about.

Perhaps the Stronsay Silver Darlings would also be interested in this...

I remember James Johnstone very well, but we knew him as Jeemick o' Mirland. He did some mason work for my father and had his meals with us at this time. He was a naturally funny man and always had us in stitches at the table with his stories. We also used to have the 78 record that was made at the time these pictures were taken, I think it was called " A night at the Bu". He was a very good fiddler and this came across on the record.

Do you have any records of him playing? I know his niece Moira and she was wondering?
