Boats in the basin

Date is a guess, but before 1939. Certainly before my time, but there are two boats I remember well namely the"Gwen Alice", Walls Bros., and the "June", Hughie Kelday. they both had Sshelter and wheelhouse built on respectively in the late Forties or early Fifties. A few years ago I had this Photo in the Car with me, driving along Harbour Street and I saw Dan Grieve working on his boat up on the pier beside the crane shed. I asked him if he could identify the boats and their owners. He asked if I had paper and pen with me and he drew out the Boats and Owners names. Later on in life as a young boy, I knew quite a few of the owners. Added by Phil Brough.

To Emma,a bit more information on the"June". She was sold to the Orkney Builders, contractors,Kirkwall,(Alfie Mackay and son Eric)w ho used her as a ferry boat for men to the building of new schools' in the North Isles. This was when Hughie and family left Orkney, I knew the Keldie Family well, living close to them at Shore Street. They had a shellfish business near the lane at Dunkirk. Were you related to Hughie, Emma? Added by Phil Brough.

Hi Phil.
Yes I was related to Hughie, he was my great Uncle, I caught up with him in York a couple of years ago, long story!!!!. But he was over the moon to see me as I was doing the family history. I will catch up with you some other time about him, sadly he did pass away within a couple of weeks of me seeing him, but did manage to get a picture of him. Thank You so much for this pic. Best Regards Emma :-) x
