Comments:
Retreat? You've got to be joking! Hutch must entertain dozens of visitors every summer. Legendary host, food and ale. One of Orkney's best raconteurs.

Lovingly known by my sons and daughter as 'mad uncle David' - he's my late granny's cousin. Thank you for posting the photo - we live in Wiltshire and my children have never seen David's house.

What a place, should be on the guide to Orkney. Recommend you read his story : Pictures in the Wind

Just had to add my comments. A legendary host indeed remember camping in the garden many years back while sea kayaking in Orkney....a few drams and a hearty breakfast.

I met David on the ferry from Mainland to Hoy in December of 1998. He invited me to his house, where we talked about the history of Orkney and the area, before I went hiking in the area. Nice to see he is still there. I sent him a postcard shortly after my visit- hope he got it.
