Today sees the Drumming in of the Market for this year, and fittingly we have two pictures from the past courtesy of Peter Burges.
Peter writes:
'... the [left] picture enclosed goes back to 1949....at the mercat cross....Mr Thomas Sclater accompanied by none other than yours truly doing the honours on this occasion. [The photo on the right] taken at the pier head ,on the same day...surrounded by young spectators, some of whom were probably watching such an event for the first time. '
