March 17th. 1969, the Irene was driven ashore at Grimness.
It was to this stranding that the Longhope Lifeboat, had been called, but never arrived. It was found upturned the next day, with the tragic loss of all the crew.

Great picture, I used to play on this boat as a teenager.

my husband was one of the coastguards called out in the middle of the night to this ship, only returned home next day in the afternoon
