Const. Bill Main on duty in Stronsay during the last war.
May be some of the Stronsay contributers can tell me where
the photo was taken and who is the person standing next to him. And I dont know the dog's name either.

Angus are you sure this is Stronsay the local bobby used to travel round the North isles this looks more like Kettletoft in Sanday E.S. maybe I am wrong

Erlend, You may well be right my father was stationed at both Sanday and Stronsay during the war hence the reason I was born in Sanday. So is there anyone else can confirm where it is.?

Aye Erlend, hids Kettletoft Hotel, Sanday. Don't ken the man or the dog, but no handcuffs to be seen.

Hello Tommy. I was last in Sanday in 2005 with my uncle, David Rendall and he pointed out to me that my parents stayed at Howe Cottage, he thought it was the middle door. In 1941 they stayed at Ivy Cottage, Cross Parish, thats where I came on the scene. In 1943 we moved to the Police station at Stronsay.

Mr. William Main was appointed Constable in the Police War Reserve on 2nd September 1940 and stationed at Kirkwall. He was transferred to Sanday and then to Stronsay on 19th March 1943. Constable Main resigned on 28th February 1946.
