I, barbara (jolly) watt, bought this postcard from the net. It was sent from kirkwall in november, 1946 to captain mcmath of the s/s spanker, based in newcastle-upon-tyne. I just wondered if anyone knew anything about the old wood engraving.

I don't know where the engraving originates, but it is also in "Peace's Hand-book to the Orkney Islands", which was published before the First World War. I think I've seen it somewhere else too, but can't think where.

Hello Barbara - at the Hoy Kirk we are having an Old Man of Hoy exhibition - and we are gathering material for an on-line archive. It would be great to have a copy of this postcard for the digital archive if that was possible?

Hi Rebecca. When is your exhibition? I live in France so it could take a peedie while for me to get a copy to you. I could send it in an email to you and then you could print it out yourself. I'll need to find it first! Please let me know.

Hello Barbara thanks for getting back. France? lovely. No rush the show is going up this weekend but it is an ongoing archive, so we hope to keep adding items. An email version of a scan is just ideal. Just whenever it turns up. Kind regards Rebecca
