From the same guide book as the Stewart and Heddle advert, this shows the shop that became Boots and is now Gorn Sport. I think there was a "From our Files" item within the last year in the Orcadian website showing that it was 50 years since Boots closed the former Stewart and Heddle shop and extended this one. Note the price of "Scapa and a Camera". Date estimated.

I was born at 55 Albert Street Kirkwall on 23.06.1940. My mother rented the property from Mr Wright and conducted a bed and breakfast establishment until the late 1950s. At that time the rent was £26 per 6 months. I can't remember when it changed to Boots but it must have been just before or after WW 2 because it was owned by Boots as I was growing up. I have forgotten the name of the original manager but later on there was a Mr Langskaill whose daughter I was friendly with, he was a local. When I left to join the WRAF in1959 my mother was still living there but after I married in 1961 she had moved to temporary accommodation.
