Peter Burges writes:
'Having a small collection of Tom Kent post cards, passed on to me by my maternal grandmother, I have been able to "digitally enhance" some of them, the results of which I intend to share with anyone interested.
This one is of Kirkwall Harbour Basin a long time ago.'
The date is an estimate.

A wonderful picture indeed, as so many of Tom Kent's were. For me, this one is enhanced by the man sculling with a single oar in the transom-notch of his dinghy. I can't recall when I last saw that being done. Is it a dying (or even dead) skill? With legs braced wide apart and both hands on the oar you could drive your boat at a good clip - faster, over a short distance, than conventional rowing. Or you could dawdle along using just one hand.

Fascinating, Peter. These are really atmospheric and show what an excellent photographer Tom Kent was.
