What was the reason for not using the Stronsay slipway? Was it too shallow for newer boats or was it as there was a good harbour any way?
It's a great pity that Stronsay lifeboat was ever withdrawn, we in Longhope remember how the Sronsay men came down to search for our overdue boat without hesitation and had to go all the way round Orkney to return such was the weather that morning to the east of Orkney.
Thank you for your bravery. You are not forgotten here.

The lifeboat house was removed in the late 1940s by Peter Stevenson of Kirbuster, and Alexander Cooper of Blinkbonny, Stronsay. I remember being there when my father Johhno Miller of Glenmanna, Stronsay, helped to take it down.

I can mind a few o the farms at this end o the island made rollers for the fields oot o the rollers from the middle o the slip.[the ones they pulled the boat up over] .They were verv heavy but quite small in circumference and if you went in soft earth like neep or tattie land they tended to sink a bit and just drag along without turning. Must still be a few around.
