Some one has suggested that this might be a shooting party. The photo
was taken at St. Margaret's Hope before the big pier was built.

It looks like some visiting big-wig or other - an MP or parliamentary candidate perhaps? I thought it might be Cathcart Wason, for he was a big man, but I've found a picture of him and, though tall and bearded, he was a good deal slimmer than this bloke.

Its obviously the plot for a sherlock holmes story......just go to sleep with the picture in your mind.
