Boiler from SS Monomoy

The Monomoy was wrecked at Marwick Birsay on 6th January 1896. She was carrying a general cargo of wheat, rolling pins,casks of lard etc and in such quantity that it cover ed the beach several feet deep in places as the ship broke up. Imagine the powers that be coping with such a happening in this day and age.....

The boiler washed ashore after a storm in the eighties.

Am I right in saying that the bell off this ship used to hang in the Dounby Primary School.

The bell from the Monomoy hung in a bell tower on the old Dounby School and when it was demolished the bell was saved by the contractor who gave it back to be hung in the new school.
