If thats Crockness it must have moved. Looks more like Burra House.

I was born and brought up in Crockness, this is not Crockness, it is as William

I think this is Burra House just around the bay from the Moness Pier too.

I think the confusion is that the bay in this part o Hoy was known locally as the Bay o Crekland, or The Bay of Creekland.

Something else to ponder!!.
Was this house not just called the Hoy Manse, and was it Comander McKenzie who retired here after the closure of Lyness Naval Base who named it Burra House??.
Answers to this address!!.

Pretty sure you are correct John. When I was young a colourful minister The Rev. McWhirter lived there and I am sure it was called The Manse.

This wiz indeed Hoy Manse - is there no a story that Sir Walter Scott wrote ?something? while biding there? The mists of time get thicker wae age ..... but I seem to mind Robinson the Lay Missionary lived there roond about the time Charles Abel was minister in Longhope (for the Sooth Isles) ..... but then I could be well off beam!

Dad always called it the Hoy Manse. I think your right John, Commander McKenzie changed the name.
I can't remember Robinson but McWhirter rings a bell.
