Demolition of St Clair's Emporium

We interrupt the chronological addition of pictures sent in for this topical (yesterday) view of the demolition of St Clair's Emporium to make way for the forthcoming Lidl. And they call this progress.

Still, we have pictures of the way it was- see below for the link.

This picture is taken from near the bus station on Great Western Road, which will be among the next things for the chop when the grandiose Travel Centre takes shape at Jewsons/Brownlees/Baikies Woodyard/Peaces Woodyard (delete according to generation).

Comments:
So sad! The end of an era. My family knew Bill(squeak) Sinclair very well. What he didn't have in this shop was not worth having, and if he didn't have what you needed in stock he would lay hands on it for you within a couple of days! The list of things he sold was endless from cars and tractors to wallpaper and paint, welly boots to cuddly toys! Just phone Bill on Kirkwall 2412 and it would be out from Scapa on the next sailing of the old Hoy Head! Happy Days.
