This photograph was taken in the back garden of 8 Garrioch Street - Kirkwall Orkney. The three cadets in the picture are as follows: L/Right: Eddie Borwick - Peter Garrioch - John Bews.
The Army Cadet Force headquarters was in Junction Road. Senior Officer: Lieutenant Swan who I believe "worked as a teacher in the Stromness Academy" Sgt Eric Steggles - senior instructor. Other cadets that I can remember were: John and Lenny Grieve "from Harray".

Lt Swan was the headmaster in Stenness.

Thanks William - I was not just a 100% sure as to where Lieutenant Swan actually worked. I met him again at the School of Infantry - Warminister England - this was in 1963ish.

Ps: I was also Staff Officer up at TA Centre Kirkwall for 17 yrs, of which I have happy memories and some not so happy when things went wrong- thankfully there was not many of them.

Stewart - My daughter bought 12 Garriock St about 6 years ago - I spent 7 months renovating the inside of it before she moved in. Do you have any old photos of the area. I have found a photo of the builders in one of the books of orkney photos - in the background is No 12 built up to window sill height, which I intend to get a copy of.

Anyone out there with photos from the Orkney Army Cadets camp in Rothesay. Must have been about 1961 or thereabouts.
